Top-view SLAM mounts the camera on the mobile robot and uses the ceiling, walls, and other stable environmental features for mapping and localization. This approach reduces dependence on floor markers and suits indoor sites with changing layouts, floor occlusion, or multiple vehicles.

How it works

The V2 Pro navigation controller fuses data from a top-view camera, 2D LiDAR, and IMU:
  • The top-view camera captures overhead features.
  • 2D LiDAR supplies planar contour information.
  • The IMU provides vehicle-motion data.
  • The controller outputs data for mapping, localization, and relocalization.
Top-view localization depends on observable environmental features. Validate mapping and localization before deployment in open areas, repetitive scenes, or zones with long-term occlusion or frequent structural changes.

Solution characteristics

Natural-feature localization

The controller localizes by recognizing natural features overhead and around the vehicle, reducing the need for fixed markers such as reflectors or magnetic strips. See the product documentation for the V2 Pro top-view camera’s working range and ambient-light conditions.

Multi-sensor fusion

The camera, LiDAR, and IMU provide complementary data for map construction and vehicle-pose estimation. Results still depend on sensor extrinsics, vehicle motion, environmental features, and map quality.

On-device mapping and integration

The controller includes a computing platform and supports mapping and map management through the host software. SDK, HTTP API, UDP, and ROS interfaces are available for system integration.

Typical scenarios

Deployment workflow

1

Install and connect

Mount the controller on top of the vehicle. Keep the top-view camera and LiDAR clear of the chassis, cables, and load, then connect power, network, and required vehicle interfaces.
2

Configure extrinsics and vehicle parameters

Configure sensor extrinsics and vehicle-localization parameters in the host software, then check the data streams.
3

Capture and deploy a map

Capture environmental data along the target route, generate a map, deploy it to the device, and verify localization and relocalization in representative areas.
4

Connect the higher-level system

Read localization data through the SDK, HTTP API, UDP, or ROS interface as required, and implement exception handling and runtime monitoring.

The localization controller outputs vehicle pose. It does not replace obstacle detection, functional safety, task scheduling, or the complete system required for autonomous forklift operation. Complete a site risk assessment and vehicle-level validation before launch.
