When a wheeled humanoid robot moves through a factory or warehouse, it must cover near-floor and surrounding obstacles. VersaBot mounts an MRDVS S3 RGB-D ToF camera at the bottom of the robot to capture environmental data near its travel path.

Perception design

The S3 captures RGB images and depth data together, providing distance, color, and texture information. Mounting the camera low on the robot brings near-floor obstacles into the field of view and supplies 3D perception inputs to the higher-level avoidance policy.

Application considerations

  • Near-floor coverage: Detect small obstacles and objects at the edge of the travel path.
  • Dynamic environments: Use perception data to identify people, carts, and other moving objects during operation.
  • Site adaptation: Field of view, vehicle speed, obstacle material, lighting, and chassis vibration affect actual performance.
The 3D camera is one part of the perception chain. Configure and validate vehicle-level avoidance and safety policies using operating speed, braking capability, blind spots, and an on-site risk assessment.
